I thought slavery was part of my past; but now I know it's part of my present; and unless I do something about it, it will be part of my future.


RICHARD TOVAR, president. During the last 8 years Tovar has been involved in raising awareness and getting people involved in the fight against modern day slavery. He is also an active board member of the Alachua County Coalition Against Human Trafficking. In 2013, he traveled to South East Asia to assist in the development of a rescue program for teenager forced into prostitution. Tovar holds a Masters’ Degree in Food Microbiology from the University of Florida. He is also an associate professor in the Sciences for Health Programs Department at Santa Fe College.


STEVEN ABADIA, vice-president. With over 15 years of US military service, he has had the opportunity to travel around the globe and participate in both military operations and humanitarian aid. Abadia graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and is currently focusing on his graduate studies in Asia-Pacific and Latin-American studies. His interest in standing up against Human Trafficking came about during college while taking a Western European Human Trafficking course. Realizing the tremendous negative cause and effects of the Human Trafficking industry, Abadia has joined the FIGHT team in hopes to not only raise awareness of the industry, but to also raise awareness on how to combat the demand for Sex Trade/Human Trafficking.


HECTOR DEL CARPIO, treasurer. Del Carpio has worked over 10 years in South America for non-profit organizations that are dedicated to build orphanages and education centers. Helping the least in our society is Del Carpio's mission. He became involved with the fight against modern day slavery in 2012 when the board of directors of FIGHT asked him to bring his knowledge and experience overseas to help FIGHT reach its goals.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
